The First International Ottawa Puppet Festival is approaching!
Excitement is in the air! The First International Ottawa Puppet Festival is on its way, bringing something new and thrilling to the city's cultural scene. This unique event will showcase three multi-award-winning groups from Canada, Kazakhstan, and Turkey, performing at the University of Ottawa’s Academic Hall. With a variety of performances tailored for every age group, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
The festival will kick off with a contemporary take on Shakespeare's tragic love story, "Romeo and Juliet," presented by Kazakhstan’s Almaty State Theatre. This performance promises to captivate audiences with its fresh interpretation and timeless themes.
Next up, Montreal's L’Illusion Puppet Theatre will delight children with a performance that incorporates live music, creating an incredibly entertaining experience for young audiences.
The Turkish group will present two unique performances. The first is a traditional Turkish shadow puppetry play, "Karagoz, The Witches, and the Indian Fakir," a mesmerizing show made up of three acts: shadow puppetry, juggling, and a marionette performance. The second is an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s "The Garden of the Selfish Giant," which has won numerous international awards for Best Children’s Play. This adaptation has been reworked into Russian and Bulgarian, garnering additional accolades.
